I think Jessica Parra wrote on her entry about the poem because she wanted to show that she came back to the poem & related to it.
I did not really understand the poem but I will try to understand what the meaning of it is.

Emerson Essay

Emerson's essay is on Self-Reliance. Emerson's main idea for writing the essay was to get people to do what is true to them. To figure out what they want and go get it. Self-Reliance means self trust, he's saying to believe in yourself, ignore what other people have to say, and do you. Emerson thinks highly of his audience.
Emerson's idea was supported by diction to get the readers attention. He did this by using sophisticated words. He did not use big words to make the readers eel dumb. He used big words because that is just how he is. Emerson wants to make a point and by doing that he uses high vocabulary. For example he uses nonchalant instead of using calm in his essay
The tone in the essay is sincere. This is how Emerson wants to get to people through his essay. The essay is bold, courageous, inspiring! In the essay he says " Ne Te quaesiveris extra ". This means don't look outside o yourself. Look within. He's telling people to have trust in themselves.
This essay is also supported by syntax. The way he puts words is in a certain way. He places the words in a specific to express his point.
Yes I can agree and use Emerson's idea in real life. This is because it is true that you can not rely on anyone but yourself. You have to be independent because relying on someone else won't do you any good.

The book I got is The Fault In Our Stars. The reason I got this book is because I had already seen the movie and I wanted to see if the book itself is better. Many people have told me to get the book because it has more emotion than in the movie. This book is about a young teenager who has cancer, meets a boy who always has cancer & fall in love. They go on many adventures and live their life to the fullest. It’s very inspirational. I feel like reading the book can help me understand them more. The author captures a great story in this book. He puts lots of emotion.

Is Young Goodman Brown a static character or a dynamic character? What is he like at the end of the story? Did he experience something real in the woods or was it a dream? Please use at least two elements or quotes from the story to support your points. I think Young Goodman Brown is a dynamic character. This is because in the beginning he is just a happy guy who loves his wife. At the end of the story Young Goodman Brown is a changed man. This is because he sees the devil in the woods and he talks to him. He started realizing how people were. He realized that not all people are who they seem to appear. They all have committed sins. I think what he experienced is a dream. This is because he wakes up and realizes everything has changed for him.

1.What do you think Hawthorne's purpose was for writing this story? I think Hawthorne's purpose for writing this story because someone like the devil can appear good but deep down everyone has sins and break the rules. 2.Hawthorne states that Brown's wife is "aptly named" Faith. After reading the story, do you agree? Does Faith's name fit her personality? Does Brown have true faith in her? Yes I do because the way Goodman describes her is the most loveable person. 3.What do you think the pink ribbons signify? I think pink ribbons signify that faith is girly. 4.Was everything Brown witnessed real, a figment of his imagination, something conjured by evil, or a dream? Support your answer with passages from the text. I think every Brown witnessed was real because I do believe you can see evil and it is around all of us. 5.Who do you think the old man really is? What textual clues tell you this? The old man can be the devil because he sees Goodman in the middle of a dark road and can turn to evil. 6.What does the staff represent? Do you think the staff leads Brown onward or is the primary motivator Brown's own conscience/mind? I think the staff represents the shadow of the old man maybe 7.If Brown had not ventured into the forest, how would his life be different? If he'd stayed home, would Brown still have Faith? Would he still trust his wife and his fellow townspeople Yes it would be different because he would think differently of everyone.

Death. It's not something someone gets over. As soon as someone you care for dies what do people usually say? " they're in a better place " or "everything will be okay"? Wrong. When someone passes away, you never get over it. Everything will not be okay. I think everyone can agree they hate hearing that crap. Death is sad and scary. You might ask yourself, "then what do we say to someone who lost someone"? " I'm sorry for your loss"? Well something people can say is that yes it is rough, you may or may or may not understand how they feel but sometimes the best thing to do is is just be present. Knowing someone is their by their side that person will thank you for being with them. Death. It is sad. It is normal. I lost my baby cousin so I do understand what it feels like to lose someone. It's very depressing. You cry for months. Can't help it. You miss them. You think to yourself "did I treat that person good? Did they know I loved them"? You never get over it. You like to think they're in a better place. I do ! I know they are but hearing that a lot does get to you. Death is something you never get over.

I just read The Earth on Turtle's Back & I enjoyed it. The theme of this story was the you have to end something old to start something new. The author made the animals talk in the story because it grabs the readers attention. It certainly grabbed mine.
