The Great Gatsby Essay Prompt #1

The last line of the book, " So we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past ", is very important.  This line to me represents what life is all about. The meaning.

Durning the ending of the book at this point, the author decides to end the book by writing down that quote. For a reason of course. The quote to me symbolizes how people are always stuck in the past for a reason and are trying to move on from there. There are struggles which might be like waves as you are swimming but the waves are always keeping you from doing so. You try to do one thing but the past or present is pulling you back, like it did with Gatsby.

The Great Gatsby is rich and mysterious that people are always talking about. He is trying to move away from his past, life, but something won't let him do so. In the book he faces many situations that he goes through. Basically I think the authors, Fitzgerald, quote means that no matter how hard life gets, the world doesn't stop, you move forward.

Gatsby does many things but no matter how much money and parties he makes, he won't join Daisys social group. Gatsby goes through tough moments but doesn't stop trying. I believe Fitzgerald wanted to say that life goes on so never stop doing something until you get there.
